The AI was capable. The problem was that it had no memory of how I worked. No understanding of the methods I'd developed. No sense of what makes a research insight actually land versus get politely ignored in a meeting.

Skills changed that. Skills are plain-text files you add to your AI tool once, and they teach it your methodology so you never have to explain it again. They started in Claude and now use an open format that ChatGPT, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot all read, so the same files come with you if you ever change tools.
